February 28, 2017 – San Jose, CA – Datum Systems, a privately-held innovator in advanced satellite modems, today announced the release of additional capability in the M7 modem platform.

Combining efficient Forward Error Codes (FEC), high order modulation, and the sharpest spectral roll-off factors available, the M7 with DVB-S2/S2X card-set offers up to 50% gain in spectral efficiency over traditional satellite modems. Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) and Adaptive Equalization combined with our patented Smart Carrier cancellation creates the perfect combination of maximum available efficiency and duplex throughput up to 700 Mbps utilizing the same bandwidth. For high throughput satellite (HTS) links, up to 350Mbps of throughput is possible in each direction of a Point-to-Point or Point-to-Multipoint Network.

Datum Systems’ patented Smart Carrier Cancellation technology provides the fastest acquisition and easiest setup available when compared to other cancellation technology currently on the market. Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) and Adaptive Equalization keep satellite links connected in the presence of degradation caused by weather and other impairments.

The M7 modem allows for two (2) complete modems to be installed in a single 19” standard rack space (1 RU) with built in 1:1 redundancy control. The M7LT remote VSAT modem supports internal BUC/ LNB power and 10MHz high stability reference along with DVB S2/S2X transmission.

The M7 modem system is the best in class and most affordable modem platform for provisioning FDMA based networks over traditional FSS and high throughput satellites (HTS) using DVB-S2/S2X without the need to replace satellite modems. Cards can be populated together in an existing M7 modem platform to build duplex DVB-S2/S2X links, or independently mixed with Datum´s low latency FlexLDPC card sets for a truly efficient and low cost point-to-multipoint transport network. Satellite service providers, telecom operators and government/military users can design flexible and economical point-to-point or point-to-multipoint FDMA networks based on the near Shannon limit performance and modularity of the M7 system.

“Our M7 platform’s flexibility, reliability and efficiency are ideally suited for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint IP trunking applications as well as cellular backhaul, enterprise VSAT, and military communications,” said David Koblinski, VP Business Development and Marketing at Datum Systems.
